I have been unable to keep to my word in as much a fashion as I would have liked, due in no small part to an apparent outbreak in supernatural events across London and my small business advertising has apparently paid off. (That or word of mouth) I have seen about twenty clients this week alone! That has been far more then I have had in the past six months! (Not even October had me this busy) I actually had to “temp out” a secretary (she can’t believe what it is I do, and she is still amazed do not even do it for a living) which has made things a little easier, but there was still a considerable bit of paperwork to do. Hopefully things will quite down over the next two weeks (although what little personal divination I have been able to do suggest no change in pace for about twice that time), this is what I get for having a business open all day (except Friday to Saturday, which is why I have been able to do as much I have today).
[sighs] Now that I have shared some of my private trails and tribulations with you I shall move on to the matter at hand…
The Divines are not a singular species or even a civilization, they are merely a small group of beings which had emerged from their parent species nl: the Akarciat (pronounced Ak-arr-see-at; who were in many ways similar to the Shevanni – pronounced Shi-van-nee), the Phoarid (pronounced Foe-ar-id; an aggressive, crystalline species which had originated on a volcanic “hell” world) and the Zydan (pronounced Zhy-dann; a secretive and mysterious race native to the interiors of gas giant planets). Something which all Divines have in common is a need of worship and a desire to rule. As such they tend to be either convert or subjugate any civilization they come across. Those that prove to be too difficult are usually eliminated. They are incredibly powerful and knowledgeable entities with the ability to manipulate their surroundings as they will and to construct technologies that can rival those of the Enkindlers. It is this behavior that brought the Divines into a headlong collision with the Enkindlers (the same race which had been responsible for the development of their parent species) who did not appreciates the Divines attempts to enthrall even more of their children (nl those that had escaped the Divines or did not wish to be part of their empires). It was not only this conflict but also strife amongst themselves that lead to the protracted and dreadful events of the Domain Wars which was brought to an abrupt end by the Xtechi (when it was clear that the Divines war with the Enkindlers would case too much destruction to the galaxy). The Divines and their servants (i.e. the Servitors upon whom I shall elaborate at a later date) will serve as constant threats to the players once they venture into certain regions of the galaxy – or if they are terribly unlucky and the Servitors or the Divines finds them first. One of the Divines personal goals is to achieve perfection which they take to mean absolute omnipotence.
The original idea I had for the Divines remains largely unchanged, I have however taken some inspiration from Stargate (Goa’uld and Ori) and Starcraft (Archons, particularly the new Twilight Archon from Starcraft 2) for them in small parts. I am however still debating whether they should be sedentary or wandering, rapid or slow expansionists as well as their exact numbers.
DeviantART has partnered with FAIR to help promote equality through The Love Unites Shepard Fairey Equality Project. We're asking deviants to align themselves with this cause and have their work judged by Shepard Fairey himself!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
