This is a “Space Age” related work, therefore those of you hoping to learn something of the Art will be rather disappointed. Now then, I am still hard at work on the more significant document relating to the world of the game (the Eye of Truth will be finished once I am satisfied with its exact structure and contents thereof). To get the proverbial “ball rolling” I have decided to introduce first of all two very important concepts. Every “race” in the game has their own symbol related to them. It is essentially a form of identification (think of it as a national flag of sorts). Naturally there is the distinct possibly of one or more races having similar symbols. This is allowed intentionally as it can create a number of fascinating (and entertaining) scenarios. I shall represent them in black and white because I do not know the colour configurations that the players have selected yet.
With that out of the way I shall introduce the greater part of this subject. The Xtechi (pronounced Ze-te-ssh-ee) are a constructed race of virtual entities who exist in a separate and slightly different reality, parallel to Galaxy 611 – its dimensions and location relative to the rest of creation corresponds almost precisely with the Galaxy’s as well. They were created by Mau (pronounced Ma-ouw, whom shall be elaborated upon in the Eye of Truth) to safeguard the Galaxy and the ten Cruciforms not just from harm but from abuse. That is their primary function. These “mechanical” entities (although that would be a gross oversimplification, however for the sake of expediency) are not what one would normally considered a civilization and could be better equated – individually - with automata. They are however guided by their collective consciousness which responds to affairs by first consulting the Zakonichi (pronounced Za-co-nee-ssh-ee - i.e. the Flow of Things) through another construct known as the Kacorreka (pronounced Ka-core-reh-kha - i.e. the Heart of the World- it would be best to think of it as a sort of oracle) – which does not serve as a part of the Xtechi’s Collective – before taking any kind of action in our reality. An number of significant actions taken by this race is the Attack on Kalhatma (which forced that race to encounter the sedentary Shevanni, and later one of the Cruciforms), the Enforced Peace at the close of the Domain Wars (which prevented the and devastation of a large portion of the Galaxy) and the Prevention of the Eradication of the Elders (which would have lead to a grand war of conquest on the part of the Divines had they not gone unchallenged). Technically the most advanced civilization in the galaxy due to their access to certain reservoirs of knowledge, they have been around since the inception of the galaxy which about five billion SGY (Standard Galactic Year’s - that would by about 6.32 billion years our system of time keeping). That does not however make them immune to change as individuality has been a continuous source of trouble for the Xtechi who initially responded to the problem with “formatting” the affected individuals. Mau however, put a stop to that and instructed the Collective to bring such individuals to him so that they might decide what to do with them…
The Xtechi prevent reckless destruction and genocide, essentially they are a safety measure to prevent the players from going “out of control”. Credit for there inspiration should however go to the good people at Relic Studios and their Tiamat race (a species which never actually featured in the finished version of there Homeworld series, with the possible exception of the planet killers in the second game).
What? You mean the symbol or the history? I suspect you mean the history, that was only a tiny fraction of the whole. Within the span of several billion years quite a bit can happen, although the old catchism about war would be fitting with some civilizations in this regard..."War is a lot of bordem with bursts of excitement."
